A veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard Charlie was retired from EPB after 37 years of service. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Mr. Howell was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and loved southern gospel music. He was born on March 1, 1943, to the late Mary Sue and Clinton Austin Howell. Survivors include his loving wife, Jean Floyd Howell; daughter, Catherine Anne “Kay” Johnson (Mark); sons, Clay Austin Howell (Michelle) and Clint Austin Howell; step-sons, Hayes P. Ledford, Brad Ledford and Miles Ledford (Emily); grandchildren, Cael Austin Howell, Calista Howell and Johnny Howell; step-grandchildren, Sydney and Charlotte Ledford, Mallory and Addison Ledford and many cousins throughout Tennessee. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home with Dr. Gregg Hauss officiating. His family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the funeral home prior to the service. Woman killed by stray bullet - Tri City Times

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 3, in Allenton for the victim of Sunday's accidental shooting.An obituary for Shirley Pfeil says the 73 year-old was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and its altar society and spent 25 years as the church's housekeeper. Services will be held at the church on Tuesday morning before she's laid to rest in the East Berlin Cemetery.The circumstances surrounding Pfeil's sudden death have garnered media headlines across the state and beyond.According to the Michigan State Police's Lt. David Kaiser, Pfeil was killed on Sunday when she was struck by a stray bullet inside her Dunn Road home. A 21 year-old Riley Township man who was target practicing at the time could be charged in the incident.Shirley Pfeil died Sunday after being struck by a stray bullet that entered her Dunn Rd. home. Troopers were called to Pfeil's residence in the 13000 block of Dunn Road around 12:45 p.m. after Pfeil's husband called 911. He told police that they were in the kitchen area of their home when he heard a loud crack and his wife collapsed to the floor."She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she was deceased," Kaiser said.Troopers determined that the 21 year-old male at a residence southwest of Pfeil's home had been target practicing at the time the victim was struck by a bullet."It appears one of the rounds fired during practice entered her home and struck and killed her," Kaiser said.Kaiser said the suspect has been cooperative with police. He was interviewed on Sunday by investigators but is not in police custody.Multiple weapons in the man's custody were seized by police. Kaiser said he didn't know how many were taken and it's not clear how many were being used that day but all were rifles.Troopers on scene indicated that Pfeil's home was directly behind the backstop or berm being used that day for target practice.
